My Visit to Fisherman’s Cottage
Guest Experience team member Joe, took a trip out to the delightful town of Cromer last week to visit the charming Fisherman’s Cottage.
It had been some time since I visited the town of Cromer, and I had certainly forgotten just how wonderful this little town is. Despite the bad weather, I found myself walking around the small streets in awe of the array of independent shops, bakeries, and cafes. An old-fashioned town that has aged gloriously, keeping it’s defining features without being left behind. With the rain trickling down, and dominant grey skies, even the weather could not dampen my glowing opinion of this beautiful little seaside town.
Having revelled in the town for the morning, I decided it was about time I find Fisherman’s cottage. I’d left my car parked* in an unrestricted spot on Cambridge Street, and decided I’d skip Google Maps and use the old-fashioned method which I’d once heard my parents talking about… ‘Looking’.
*A quick note on parking. Cromer is a busy little town, and a popular amongst tourists and locals alike. Parking can be tricky but there are several streets where with a little luck you can find free parking.
Having found my way to the beach, I knew the Cottage must be close, I just didn’t realise how close. After marvelling at the fantastic beach, and stunning Victorian Pier I turned back the way I came and walked up Surrey Street, and there it was. Literally no more than one minute from the beach, Fisherman’s Cottage was directly at the crossing where Surrey Street meets Brook Street. Easy to find, incredibly close the beach, and quite possibly the cutest building I had ever seen. My first impressions of Fisherman’s Cottage where nothing but positive. Built in traditional Norfolk red brick and flint, the charming blue door with blue framed windows made for a very captivating image.
Making my way round to the back door, I entered the key code to go in and made my way into the kitchen. The kitchen offered all the usual amenities and facilities you could want in a holiday let, was cute and a fitting size for the cottage. Making my way further through, I came into the homely decorated living area. There’s only so many times I can repeat the word cute, but this cottage truly was the pinnacle of the word. The room offered a lovely (and comfortable!) two-person sofa, a flat screen television and a two-seater dining table which was well placed by the front window. I could imagine sitting there eating breakfast watching the local town’s people going about the pretty quaint streets! It was exceptionally pleasant to see the owner had took great care in adding a number of homely touches, with plenty of decoration and ornaments to ensure a guest felt right at home as soon as they have arrived.
What feels almost like a hidden door at first, leads to the upstairs. Going up the cottages, relatively steep, small staircase I arrived at the landing with the bathroom one side and the bedroom the other. The bathroom was more modern than I was expecting, with a very nice, spacious shower cubicle, the bathroom was more than adequate in size for a 1-bedroom holiday let. At the front of the house was the bedroom, and what a sweet, almost enchanting bedroom it was. Perfectly in fitting with the style of the cottage, there’s a king-size four poster bed, an ornamental fireplace as well as a large wooden wardrobe. Much like the living room the bedroom had been thoughtfully decorated with some nice touches to further increase the charm of the cottage.
As I walked back downstairs, and back through the cottage door, reflecting on the property, it’s positioning and the location, I have to say it totally surpassed my expectations. As a two-person holiday let, situated perfectly in the ‘gem of the north Norfolk coast’, you would struggle to find a more idyllic property or place. Though I’m sure its next-door neighbour, Shoemaker’s Cottage might have something to say about that!
