North Norfolk

Sheringham

Once a fishing village, Sheringham is now a traditional seaside town with a Blue Flag family-friendly beach. You will find many independent shops selling local produce as well as cafes and tearooms. Why not take a trip othe heritage steam railway?

The beach

Amble through the town centre and along the high street to access Sheringham seafront. There are concrete slopes leading down to the beach and promenade lined with colourful beach huts. A beautiful pebble and sand beach with terrific rock pools, the perfect sand for making sandcastles!

The wonderful promenade is great for walking along at high tide. From here you will enjoy some amazing beach views.

There are showers and W/C’s making it a great stop for families, just be aware that it can be difficult to access the beach with a buggy or pram due to the shingle. Dog friendly outside of summer months. Lifeguarded from July – September.

The town

Sheringham is a traditional seaside town and a bustling hive of activity with plenty to do for the whole family. Stroll along the high street and you will pass a multitude of independent shops, cafes, tearooms, amusements and ice cream parlours. The town also has a theatre and museum.

All year round there is a market held on Saturdays and also on Wednesdays between April and November.

Every year visitors flock to the town for a weeklong carnival filled with events and activities. There are competitions, beach sports, live music and a parade, just to name a few. Sheringham carnival takes place in August each year.

North Norfolk heritage railway

The North Norfolk railway (also known as the Poppy Line) offers a 10.5-mile round trip through an area designated as being of outstanding natural beauty. It’s a chance to take a trip on a historic steam train and explore some fantastic towns on the way. The railways headquarters are based in Sheringham where you will also find a children’s activities coach and souvenir shop.

Don’t forget they have a range of Halloween specials in October, suitable for both adults and children. And come Christmas time the train transforms into the 'Norfolk Lights Express' from late November, with Santa specials starting shortly afterwards!
